Grenada parliamentarian calls on diplomatic mission to stop interfering

Thursday, April 15, 2004

ST. GEORGE'S, Grenada: Former member of the Upper House of Parliament and leading attorney at law Anselm Clouden has issued a call to an un-named diplomatic mission here to stop paying the salary of legal adviser to the Grenadian government Hugh Wildman.

Clouden says he is making the call in light of the ruling of the Privy Council in the Dipcon Engineering matter where over $17 million was awarded to that company. Mr. Wildman was the main legal adviser in this matter.

In answer to a recent question, the leader of government business admitted that the salary of Mr. Wildman was paid by a foreign government but refused to say which one and how much money.

However it is widely speculated here that the salary is paid by an Asian country. Clouden says that if Wildman's salary is continued to be paid by the foreign mission it could be viewed as political interference sine the people are now expected to pay the huge sum to Dipcon mainly as a result of bad legal advice given to the government.

Clouden added that the pronouncements of the law lords where they stated that the Grenada government played it fast and loose also related to the legal adviser Hugh Wildman.
