Smith out for three weeks
Sunday, April 4, 2004
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (AFP): A fractured left
thumb will put West Indies opening batsman Devon Smith out of action for three
weeks.
Smith injured the finger during a private
practice session in his native Grenada, along with former West Indies leg-spin
bowler Rawl Lewis.
The injury will be reassessed on April 23
and means Smith, the only West Indies century-maker in the four-Test series
against England, will definitely miss the last Test at St. John's, starting on
April 10.
West Indies trail the Test series 2-0 and
are looking to prevent England from winning a Test series in the Caribbean for
the first time since 1968.
