Honduras rallies for 2-2 draw with Jamaica
Friday, April 2, 2004
KINGSTON, Jamaica (AFP): Second-half
substitutes Milton Nunez and Emile Martinez scored to lift Honduras into a 2-2
draw with Jamaica in their international football friendly here Wednesday.
Jamaica's Onandi Lowe gave the hosts the lead in the eighth minute when
defender Garfield Reid sent a crossing pass from the left side into the goal
box and Lowe nodded a header that beat the Honduran goalkeeper Noel Valadarres.
Fabian Davis gave the "Reggae Boyz" a 2-0 edge in the 53rd minute, taking
advantage of a defence lapse to steal the ball and blast it past Valadarres.
But Honduras answered in the 67th minute when Nunez set up a powerful Martinez
shot that beat substitute Jamaican goalkeeeper Aaron Lawrence.
Nunez took advantage of a Jamaican defence mix up and tucked home the
equalizer in the 78th minute. "It was a good
game for us but I thought our defence make a few errors which the Hondurans
capitalized on," Jamaican technical director Carl Brown said. "We have to work
on that area of our play." Honduras coach
Bora Milutinovic praised his team fightback.
"Jamaica were up 2-0 early in the second half but we came fighting back," he
said. "This is what I want to see from the team."
