Former Aristide associates ordered to stay in Haiti
Sunday, March 28, 2004
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AFP): Former Haitian prime minister Yvon Neptune and about 30 other members of deposed president Jean Bertrand Aristide's government were ordered not to leave the country, officials said Saturday.
The order stems from an investigation opened under Haiti's new officials into the country's financial management. The probe covers Neptune and all former directors-general of Haiti's ministries, the officials said.
Prime Minister Gerard Latortue promised two weeks ago to hire a foreign auditing firm to look into government finances.
"Nothing will be forgotten, and nobody will enjoy impunity," said Latortue, ordering Justice Minister Bernard Gousse to set up an impartial investigative body.
