
Trinidad's Bovell sets 200m individual medley short course world record

EAST MEADOW, USA (AFP): George Bovell of Trinidad and Tobago broke the 200m individual medley short course world record here Thursday, winning the NCAA US men's collegiate title in a time of 1min 53.93sec.
Bovell improved on the previous world record of 1:54.65, which was set by Finland's Jani Sievinen in April 1994 and matched by Hungary's Atilla Czene in March of 2000.
It was the second world record set on the opening day of the NCAA men's championships.
Frenchman Frederic Bousquet set a 50m freestyle short course world record with a time of 21.10sec in the final.
The previous record of 21.13sec was set by Britain's Mark Foster in January 2001.
