ST GEORGE'S, Grenada: A Cuban diplomat has confirmed that the 22nd Session of Cuba-Guyana Mixed Commission concluded after two days of deliberations, with a final agreement signed by Cuban government minister Ricardo Cabrisas and the Guyanese minister of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation, Clement Rohee.

According to the Cuban diplomat the agreements for 2004-2006 have resolved to continue the work of more than 20 years by the Cuban medical brigade in Guyana and other actions in public health related to cancer treatment, the struggle against AIDS and to explore the possibilities of medicine supply and medical equipment.

Other agreements involve the technical assistance in education, high education, agriculture and fishing.

Both countries will also jointly work to identify projects in construction and transport and new efforts will be done to increase economic and trade relations.

They also agreed to carry out procedures to obtain third sources financing that will complement bilateral effort in the context of South-South Cooperation.

Ricardo Cabrisas expressed satisfaction on the agreements achieved and emphasized the importance of sparing no effort to make it definite.

In the other hand Rohee considered the Mixed Commission a tested mechanism for the development of the cooperation between Cuba and Guyana. He appreciated the Cuban collaborators´ services specially the one of doctors and health technicians.

Cuban government minister also fulfilled a program of work that included interviews with President Bharrat Jagdeo and other Guyanese leaders.

Attempts to isolate Cuba in the Caribbean region have met with stiff resistance from governments and people alike despite United States pressure, since Cuba has played a leading role in giving free university education to hundreds of Caribbean nationals.
