Montserrat and Bermuda clash Sunday in return leg of World Cup football qualifier

Saturday, March 20, 2004

BRADES, Montserrat (GIU): Three weeks after suffering a crushing defeat in Hamilton, Team Phoenix - the Montserrat football team - will be hoping for a better performance on home soil in the return leg of the World Cup qualifying match against Bermuda on Sunday.

In the opening encounter, Bermuda featuring a number of its US-based professional players trounced Team Phoenix 13-0 after enjoying a 6-0 lead at half time.

Montserrat's line-up included four UK-based players.

Team Phoenix's Antigua-born coach William Lewis said that he is hoping for a much better showing from his players on their home ground.

" I expect the team to play a lot better than in Bermuda. We are in our conditions - the conditions we love. We are home, we have the crowd support and expect them to go and try to win. I know we can do it," Lewis said in an interview with Radio Montserrat.

Team Phoenix (Montserrat) has to win by 14 clear goals to stay in contention.
