CDB approves $80m infrastructure loan for St Lucia
Saturday, March 20, 2004
CASTRIES, St. Lucia: The Caribbean Development Bank said Wednesday it had approved an $80 million loan to help St. Lucia build infrastructure against flooding in coastal cities.
The work funded by the loan will be done in Castries, the capital, and the Anse La Raye, a fishing village also on the western coast of the former British colony where high winds and hurricanes cause flooding in coastal areas.
This is St. Lucia's second disaster-prevention project financed by the bank. In May 1998, the bank loaned the country $3.8 million to rework the East Vieux Fort's drainage system and replace a corroded reservoir and sections of a wall protecting the banks of the Castries River.
