ROSEAU, Dominica: Dennison Joseph, singing as ''Dice'', was on Saturday crowned Dominica's 2004 calypso king here at Festival City.

The young man collected his first national crown with his songs ''Minding my own business'' and ''Animal Farm.''

Dice, in only his second time in the event, combined social commentary and political satire to the delight of thousands of fans.

Calypso king in 2002 and 2003 Davidson ''De Observer'' Victor was relegated into second spot.

Former king Derrick ''De Hunter'' St. Rose placed third while Gregory ''Lord Karessah'' Riviere earned the fourth position.

Eleven calypsonians competed in the two-round contest dubbed the island's number show in its annual carnival celebrations.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old mathematics teacher Elhanna Alexia emerged Miss Dominica 2004 from a field of seven contestants here on Friday.

The festivities climax on February 24 with two days of street jump-up and merriment throughout the island.
