MIAMI, USA (AFP): Three Dominican Republic emigrants were killed and 19 were missing after the boat they were taking to Puerto Rico sank, the US Coast Guard said Thursday.
Twenty-three people were on board the 30-foot vessel. One person was rescued and told Coast Guard personnel that the boat had capsized on choppy seas just after 3:00 am.
"The rescue operations are continuing, the Coast Guard has committed all available assets to the search, and we are hopeful of finding survivors," Commander Karl Gabrielsen of the Coast Guard's Greater Antilles Section said in a statement.
