THE VALLEY, Anguilla: Twenty six-year-old Kallus Rogers of Anguilla has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Judith Wach of Celebration, Florida on Sept 14th 2002.
Her Ladyship Justice Janice George Creque sentenced him without the presence of any of his relatives.
Rogers was not legally represented throughout his trial, after he dismissed his lawyer that was provided to him by the Government of Anguilla.
He also did not represent himself in any way, declining to do so when asked.
The Jury deliberated for three hours and came back with a seven to two majority verdict of guilty, to which Mr Rogers did not respond.
Justice Creque then decided on the sentence of life in prison, stating that the fact that he also committed burglary and that the injuries to Mrs Wach were horrendous played a part in her decision.
Wach was holidaying on the island, at the time of her death.
The body was discovered in the sea close to her home on Saturday 14th September around 4:00am. The body was identified by her sister Marilyn Behler.
The cause of her death was given as asphyxia consistent with strangulation. There was evidence of sexual assault and other bodily injuries, which confirmed that she died from unnatural causes.
