Struggling Campbell eases pressure with unbeaten century

ST THOMAS, USVI: Former West Indies vice captain Sherwin Campbell made a timely return to form with an undefeated century to pace Barbados to a comfortable 356 for seven against The Leeward Islands in St. Thomas on Thursday.

The teams were competing in the sixth round of the Carib Beer Series, the regional first class competition. Barbados started the series with 60 points and need only draw against the Leewards to be sure of retaining the title with one of matches still to be completed.

Campbell has been in very poor form this season and his place in the team was the subject of hot debate in Barbados over the past few days. His undefeated 162 would have sent a strong message to his critics. Another former West Indies batsman Ryan Hinds was the only other Barbadian to take advantage of a good batting pitch. He scored 49.

Medium pacer Kerry Jeremy took two for 92 on the opening day while spin bowler Chaka Hodge took two for 93.
