St Maarten Commissioner encourages tourism sector to use Gocaribbean website

Tuesday, February 10, 2004

GREAT BAY, St. Maarten (GIS): Commissioner responsible for Tourism and Economic Affairs Theo Heyliger, is calling on the hospitality business community to utilize the Caribbean Tourism Organizations (CTO) new booking engine www.gocaribbean.com to promote the island.

"The website represents a revenue generating opportunity for small, medium and large businesses catering to the tourism sector and is one tool that everyone can get involved and market the island in an inexpensive manner," Commissioner Heyliger told the Government Information Service (GIS) on Monday.

The website falls under the campaign, "Life Needs the Caribbean," a public-private sector initiative that was started within the past two-years to market the Caribbean.

Those who are members of the Caribbean Hotel Association are eligible at no cost to list their inventory on the online travel site and benefit from both the website and telesales through the toll-free service 1-888-CARIBBEAN.

"This is an opportunity for dive operators, tour companies, taxi associations, car rental companies, spas and restaurants to offer products and services to North American consumers via the online booking website," Commissioner Heyliger pointed out.
