
Dominican PM leaves for Europe

ROSEAU, Dominica: The Prime Minister of Dominica, Mr Roosevelt Skerrit, leaves Dominica over the weekend on an important mission to Europe. The Dominican leader will be joined in London, England by the other Prime Ministers of the Windward Islands.
Issues related to prices and quality of bananas from the Windwards sold in British supermarkets will be discussed. Meetings are planned with officials from the big supermarkets in the UK, namely, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Tesco and Marks and Spencer.
While in London, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral discussions with Baroness Scotland of Ashtal QC, Baroness Amos, Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Mr Don McKinnon and Minister for Agriculture, Lord Whitty.
A meeting has also been planned with Dominican nationals living in the UK.
Prime Minister Skerrit is also scheduled to travel to Brussels to meet with officials from the European Commission. Meetings have been scheduled with Agriculture Commissioner, Franz Fischler; Trade Commissioner, Pascal Lamy; and Development Commissioner Nielson.
In the absence of Mr Skerrit from the State, Minister for Tourism, Industry, Enterprise Development and Establishment, Charles Savarin will act as Prime Minister.
