New projects agreed between Anguilla and British Governments

Friday, February 6, 2004

THE VALLEY, Anguilla: Following the recent Strategic Country Programme talks, according to a press release from the Anguilla Ministry of Finance, top priority for Britain's Department for International Development (DfID) assistance during the period April 1, 2004 to March 31, 2005 should be the professional services for the Wallblake Airport Expansion Project being provided by the contracted project consultants Scott Wilson Kirkpatrick.

Support will also be provided for the recently established Anguilla Health Authority, including further development of the Senior Citizens Home and Provision of improved mental health facilities.

The Social Sector will also benefit from assistance to the newly-reorganised Social Development Department. Funding will be made available for the provision of juvenile facilities for youth at risk and for the education sector in particular continuation of the programmes jointly delivered by the Isle of Wight and Anguilla Education Departments.

Support will also be provided for the development of the Inland Revenue Department, the transformation of the Water Department into an autonomous water utility and the expansion of the Water Testing Laboratory.

Excluding the Wallblake Airport expansion, the projects are estimated to cost in excess of four million EC dollars.
