No more work permits for real estate agents in Turks & Caicos
Thursday, January 29, 2004
PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands The Turks and Caicos Islands government will stop issuing work permits for real estate agents and property managers to expatriates.
That was stated by Chief Minister Michael Misick who said this is being done to encourage more Turks and Caicos Islanders to get involved in the real estate industry.
"There will be no new work permits for persons in real estate sales, real estate management, condominium sales, property consultants or things like that. We feel that the selling of our land is something that you do not have to be a rocket scientist to do and that our people can do it,"Misick said.
"I have done it and there are others who have done it and can do it. It creates an opportunity for Turks and Caicos Islanders to get into the real estate and manage properties. This is in line with out policy of putting Turks and Caicos Islanders first and empowering our people."
Misick said the persons who are already in the business and are presently on work permit will not be affected - at least not immediately.
"I encourage Turks and Caicos Islanders to get involved in the real estate industry. There is lots of money to be made and you can make a good career out of it. In the first few months you may have to compromise and sacrifice but I can assure you that the sacrifice will be worth it," he added.
