ROSEAU, Dominica: Taiwan on Wednesday presented US$60,000 worth of computer systems to Dominica as part of ongoing educational assistance to the island.

According to the Dominican government the computers will equip several of its departments that are lagging behind in technology.

At the presentation, Charge d'Affaires at the local Taiwanese Mission Dr. Daniel Liao noted that the gift is an important one: '' The computers are important facilities and equipment for the technology and human resource development.''

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said the assistance from Taipei will benefit local and overseas-based Dominicans doing business with the public sector.

''All of us are going to benefit because whether we live here or abroad we request assistance from the state in various capacities,'' he said.

Dr. Liao added that his government will provide more computers to Dominica at the end of 2004.
