PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (AFP): Caricom leaders have given Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide an ultimatum to resolve his country's unrest, Trinidadian Prime Minister Patrick Manning said Friday.
"Caricom has a responsibility to Haiti and we want to see the situation resolved immediately," Manning told reporters. He returned to Trinidad Thursday night after a two-day meeting in the Bahamas with other Caribbean Community officials, Haitian opposition leaders and other groups earlier this week.
Manning said Caricom leaders had drafted a list of what the embattled president must do to resolve he crisis.
He did not disclose the list.
Manning said Aristide faces the threat of economic sanctions.
Opposition groups have mounted protests to force Aristide to step down. He has been governing by presidential decree following the dissolution of Parliament.
