St. Kitts to be included in Norwegian Sky Bike & Cruise itinerary

Wednesday, January 21, 2004

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: St. Kitts has been included in Norwegian Sky's weeklong bike-and-cruise holiday in the Caribbean.

Norwegian Cruise Line said the itinerary for the March 21 cruise leaving San Juan, Puerto Rico, includes Dominica, St. Lucia, Barbados and St. Kitts and will see bikers taking four 25-mile rides in which courses range from moderate to hilly terrain.

Bike & Cruise started in 1989 and is the "first" to combine cycling and cruise ships with a focus on biking. As a result of its relationship with "Norwegian Cruise Lines" and the love for just riding a bike and traveling, Bike & Cruise was born.

The Caribbean tour is said to be the most challenging of all of its tours that has been travelling to this region for over 14 years, Alaska for 12 years and Hawaii for three years with a Mexico tour coming in the near future.

Moderate to advanced cyclists usually enjoy the tour, which comprises four rides ranging from 22 to 38 miles each day.

"The terrain varies from flats to moderate rolling hills to extremely steep climbs. Most of the steepest climbs are short. What goes up will come down, as there are also some great downhills to enjoy as your reward," said a Bike & Cruise promotion.

It pointed out that in St. Kitts and the other Caribbean islands there are fabulous views, overlooking perfect beaches and crystal-clear waters, quaint villages, rolling fields of sugarcane, lush and unusual tropical flora and fauna, old sugar mills and historic fortresses.
