MANDEVILLE, Jamaica: Alumina Partners of Jamaica (ALPART) has reported a record production for 2003, with the company producing a total of 1,529,100 metric tonnes of alumina.
Public Relations Manager at Alpart, Lance Neita told JIS News that for December, last year, the company achieved the best ever total of 139,300 tonnes of alumina, a "feat that is unmatched in terms of the history of our company".
"This means that we were producing an average of 4,189 tonnes per day and this performance surpasses the previous best of 1,508,500 which was the record set in 1999," he said.
Mr. Neita explained that the bauxite plant had set successive monthly records during the 4th quarter of 2003.
General Manager at Alpart, Darrel Harriman pointed out that it was through the input of the employees that the target had been reached.
"I congratulate our workers on their hard work that has resulted in a marked improvement in the company's performance. What should also be noted is that for 2003 we achieved record shipment of 1,566,011 tonnes," he said.
Mr. Harriman pointed out that in the area of energy consumption there had been "significant improvements".
"Given the fact that we have new markets opening such as China where there is a great demand for our alumina, I would say that we do have much to be happy about," he said.
Alpart is one of the largest earners of foreign exchange in Jamaica, raking in an estimated US$100 million annually
