Friday, January 16, 2004
NEW YORK, USA: PowerChannel, Inc. has announced that it will further expand the distribution of its pre-paid Internet access bundle to the Caribbean as the result of a recently signed exclusive distribution agreement for its products in Puerto Rico with ISS-LG, Inc.
ISS-LG, Inc., with facilities in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Atlanta, is a distributor of computers and electronics in the Caribbean. PowerChannel anticipates receiving its initial order and shipping the first units within the next 30 days.
Last week, PowerChannel announced it had shipped the first 5,000 units to Puerto Rico in conjunction with that agreement. Based on current Internet penetration, market size and demographics, PowerChannel anticipates sales in the Commonwealth should exceed 50,000 units in less than a year.
PowerChannel's principal product offers unique, low-cost access to the Internet through the use of a consumers existing television. The service includes a small connection device that hooks up to any television set and a phone line, eliminating the need for an expensive, bulky computer for Internet access. PowerChannel's computer-less access is ideal for people who don't have the need or want to spend money on a computer just to access the Internet.
PowerChannel's service also is perfect as a secondary Internet access point in households where multiple people need concurrent access to the Internet but they only own one computer.
"The Internet is an international phenomena and while computer penetration in a country like the Dominican Republic lags well behind the West, virtually everyone has a television," said Steve Lampert, PowerChannel, CEO. "Our pre- paid Internet access bundle is the ideal product to respond to the pent-up demand for the ability to affordably access the Internet and take advantage of the virtually limitless benefits of the World Wide Web."
PowerChannel's Internet service packages include one year of unlimited Internet access and the connection hardware and retail for $198.97. Renewals in subsequent years are $79.95 per year, or less than seven dollars per month.
