
New Dominican Prime Minister pledges "a leadership of inclusion"

ROSEAU, Dominica: New Prime Minister, Mr Roosevelt Skerrit, has said that he will provide simple leadership. He said: " I shall not promise you silver and gold, I shall promise you simple leadership, leadership of the people, by the people and for the people." The Dominican Leader made the comments moments after he was sworn in as Dominica's 7th Prime Minister.
Mr. Skerrit also pledged "a leadership of inclusion" and made a commitment that he would consult everyone who wants to be consulted.
The former Education Minister also said that the country requires the unity, the co-operation and understanding of everyone. He further stated: "Dominica is not Roosevelt Skerrit's Dominica, it is not the Labour Party's Dominica, it is Dominicans' Dominica."
The 31-year old politician was appointed Prime Minister on Thursday, January 8th 2004 following the death of former Prime Minister Hon. Pierre Charles from acute heart failure.
The former Minister of Youth Affairs also used the opportunity to reassure Dominica's youth that they will have the support of the government at the highest level. Mr. Skerrit warned that if "we don't spent enough attention to the youth in Dominica, then Dominica is in trouble".
The new Prime Minister told the assembled gathering of newsmen, colleagues and well-wishers that "if people are truly interested in the development of Dominica, they would rally behind the Government of Dominica" .
The new Prime Minister also pledged his government's renewed commitment to the development of our human resources, recognizing the importance of human resource development in national development.
