'My Jamaica' travel network formed

Friday, January 9, 2004

KINGSTON, Jamaica: My Jamaica is a network of diverse travel-related companies -- from hotels and restaurants to attractions, tour operators and guides -- that have joined forces to deliver a travel product targeted to the nature/culture/adventure traveler. With more than 70 members across the island, My Jamaica embraces the natural and cultural diversity that defines Jamaica.

The programs fall into three categories -- Jamaica Naturally, which includes all soft adventure -- hiking, bird watching, mountain biking, etc; Taste of Jamaica, which highlights the culinary flavors of the country as well as its vibrant local artwork; and Roots Jamaica, which gives guests insight into Jamaica's rich cultural fabric -- from dancehalls and reggae clubs to historic Great Houses. Experience the cultural or natural surroundings in style and comfort. Hotels, B&B's, rustic lodges, and campsites are committed to high standards with the emphasis on character, location and good service.

My Jamaica provides intimate experiences of the island for individuals and small groups seeking to discover the essence of Jamaica's magical nature. My Jamaica lures the traveler, not the tourist -- the guest who wants to become part of the destination, not merely observe it from the outside. Half- and full-day tours are coupled with a variety of accommodations catering to every taste and allowing guests to tailor their travels and create personal itineraries to suit their interests. Expert guides offer insights and interpretations that bring the tours to life.

At the heart of all My Jamaica programs is a commitment to responsible tourism that supports the local communities and conserves Jamaica's precious natural resources. Sustainable tourism ensures the benefit of both the guest and the host. Notes director, Imani Duncan: "We are excited to offer this new concept to the North American market. Our group is made up of people passionate about their work, and passionate about Jamaica. We feel certain that this passion will be conveyed to our guests and that they, too, will be inspired by our island."

My Jamaica makes its formal U.S. debut at the Adventures in Travel Expo, January 9-11, 2004 at the Jacob Javitz Center in New York City. For more information visit http://www.explorejamaica.org
