Sunday, January 4, 2004
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (AFP): UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, who spent Christmas and the New Year's holiday in Tobago, flew to Trinidad Friday for talks with Prime Minister Patrick Manning.
At a press conference in Trinidad on Friday, Annan said not enough is being done to fight the AIDS disease and called on the world community "to help in battle against the dreaded scourge".
Dealing with the crisis in Haiti, Annan said the ultimate solution to the problems there lies in the hands of its citizens.
He also stressed the need for all governments to cooperate across borders, not to habour terrorists and not to give them logistical support.
Annan said it is his second visit to Trinidad, but only the first since he became secretary general.
He returns to New York on Sunday.
