
Antigua PM takes over as CARICOM chairman

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua: Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister, Lester Bird will Chair the next Heads of Government Meeting, slated for St. John's from March 25 - 26
as he takes over as Chairman on January 1st, 2004
According to the Prime Minister's Press Attaché, Norman 'Gus' Thomas, Mr. Bird's appointment was announced during the 24th Regular Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) held in Jamaica in July of this year.
"Mr. Bird was also appointed to sit on the Bureau of Heads, an appointment that was unanimously agreed to and welcomed by his colleagues, who also acknowledged his vast experience and leadership qualities in CARICOM affairs, being one of the longest serving politicians in the region".
Mr. Thomas also pointed out that at Summit 24, Mr. Bird also chaired a number of meetings, filling in for the chairman on several occasions.
During Summit 24, Mr. Bird who is also the CARICOM Minister with responsibility for informatics, delivered a paper on 'The Way Forward' for the region's Informatics Industry. The Heads unanimously agreed to the proposals made in the presentation.
The 25th Regular Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Summit 25, will be held in Grenada in July of 2004.
