Tuesday, December 30, 2003

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas: The third annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament (MJCI) at the prestigious One & Only Ocean Club on Paradise Island, in The Bahamas, will kick off on January 7, 2004 at the Ocean Club Golf Course for a star-studded four-day tournament attracting celebrities and personalities from the worlds of sports, entertainment and business.

This year's MJCI will feature 36 of the greatest names in sports and entertainment in a 36-hole duel. It will be preceded by a two-day Celebrity- Amateur competition where event sponsors and representatives of the Bahamian corporate and local community will get to pair off with the stars. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Atlantis HIV/AIDS initiative, James Jordan Foundation and Ronald McDonald Houses of North Carolina. NBC-TV will broadcast the tournament on January 24th, from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM EST.

The selection of top entertainment and sports personalities scheduled to attend this year's event include Marc Anthony, Charles Barkley, Boris Becker, Barry Bonds, Brandi Chastain, Roger Clemens, Vince Coleman, Richard Dent, Eric Dickerson, Chris Doleman, John Elway, Julius Erving, Angie Everhart, Jimmy Fallon, Rollie Fingers, Kenny G, Roy Green, Wayne Gretzky, Bryant Gumbel, Bill Guthridge, Ron Harper, Dennis Haysbert, Dan Jansen, Janet Jones, Michael Jordan, Joe Kernen, Joe Morgan, Judd Nelson, Gina Lee Nolan, Charles Oakley, Maury Povich, Ahmad Rashad, Warren Sapp, Stuart Scott, Tony Sirasuga, Dean Smith, Emmitt Smith, John Smoltz, Alan Thicke, Brian Urlacher and Chris Wragge.

In addition to presenting sponsor One & Only Resorts, other major sponsors in this year's tournament include Nike, Gatorade, Golf Magazine, Icon International and PI Promotion. Last year's tournament raised over half a million dollars including a $200,000 purse and donations of $300,000 to the Ronald McDonald Houses of North Carolina and the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago, as well as $25,000 for the Bahamian Scouting Association.

Unveiled in December 2000, the Tom Weiskopf-designed 18-hole Ocean Club Golf Course is set on the eastern end of the island and offers panoramic views of the lush course and waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The 7,159-yard scenic par 72 course takes advantage of the magnificent Bahamian landscape and island cross winds, challenging golfers' precision and accuracy.
