NEW YORK, USA: The island of Jamaica was recognized as the number one destination in the Caribbean for 2003 at the Travel Weekly Readers Choice Awards on Thursday, December 18 at The Pierre in New York City. 

In addition, Sandals Resorts received top honors as the best Caribbean hotel chain. Mr Gordon 'Butch' Stewart, Owner of Sandals and Beaches Resorts was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedicated service to the tourism industry.
