Bahamas Florida Express issues advisory

Wednesday, December 24, 2003

GRAND BAHAMA, Bahamas: Bahamas Florida Express management has issued a warning to travelers that THE CAT -- one of the fastest high-speed passenger ferries in North America, offering a quick, two-hour trip at a speed of 50 mph on a 320-foot vessel -- is not affiliated in any way with Discovery Cruise Lines.  More than 12,000 customers have utilized THE CAT, recently launched by Bahamas Florida Express to transport visitors to Grand Bahama from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Although record numbers of travelers are already enjoying the speed and comfort of THE CAT, hundreds of customers have informed Bahamas Florida Express that Internet search engines, such as MSN.com, are guiding cyber users looking for THE CAT toward Discovery's site.

"Our customer service lines have been flooded with calls from travelers, travel agents and wholesalers, complaining about the confusion being caused with Discovery Cruise Lines," says George Bradley, vice president and chief marketing officer, Bahamas Florida Express.

THE CAT departs Port Everglades daily at 4 p.m. for the two-hour trip and leaves Grand Bahama Island at 10 a.m. (arriving at Port Everglades at noon). Travelers may sleep in late or travel from their originating destination prior to the 4 p.m. Florida departure.

Seats aboard the High-Speed Ferry start at $99 per person, round trip for adults (plus port charges and taxes) and $70 for children ages 3-17. A comfortable and convenient alternative to costly flights, THE CAT is 40 percent below airline costs. Travelers only need a passport or an original copy of their birth certificate for entrance onto the islands.
