Tuesday, December 23, 2003

EAST LONDON, South Africa (AFP): A four-day tour cricket match between the West Indies and Border was abandoned in South Africa on Monday, due to persistent rain.

The game was called off shortly before lunch on the final day at Buffalo Park stadium in the southern coastal city of East London, the SAPA news agency reported.

The rain started on Saturday night and continued falling for the rest of the game.

At stumps on Saturday, the Windies had made 168 for three in their second innings, a lead of 195 after bowling out Border for 241.

In their first innings, the Windies had scored 278.

The match was meant to serve as preparation for the second Test against South Africa, beginning at Kingsmead in the east coast city of Durban on December 26.
