New EC$20 notes to be issued in Grenada
Thursday, December 18, 2003
BASSETERRE, St Kitts: The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank has announced that twenty -dollar notes with upgraded security features will be put into circulation in Grenada, on Monday, December 22, 2003. Upgrades have been made to the security thread and the filigree foil.
The security thread in the new notes fluoresces under UV light, and the letters ECCB as well as the value of the note are visible in yellow, against a blue background on the front of the note. When viewed from the back, the thread appears yellow-green in colour. A second security thread has also been added.
The new notes carry a highly reflective silver filigree foil on which the value of the note is evident. The letters ECCB, as well as the denomination are visible in fine print around the foil, which having been overprinted with intaglio, a special banknote process, has a unique "raised" feel.
The current notes remain legal tender. They will be replaced by the new notes gradually over time, as the older notes are withdrawn from circulation in the normal manner, with wear and tear.
