GEORGETOWN, Guyana: New details of the circumstances surrounding the killing of a Guyanese man for which a British police officer has been arrested emerged last week, according to reports in the British press.
The British police constable was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Brian Spencer in Guyana 21 years ago. The arrest came after a tip-off to Interpol who contacted the British authorities.
Until now details of the shooting have remained shrouded in mystery. However according to sources in Guyana it is believed Mr Spencer, 21, who lived in another part of the country, used to visit his mother Norma in Kuru Kuru. However he had also struck up a relationship with a married woman in the area.
He died after he was confronted on the Kuru Kuru Highway by a man who reportedly shot him at close range with a shotgun.
Instead of taking Mr Spencer to hospital for some reason those trying to help him took him to the Kuru Kuru police station. Mr Spencer died there.
