MOSCOW, Russia (AFP): Cuba and Russia are to step up their cooperation as a result of growing tensions in the global situation, a top Russian official said Thursday.
"The acute nature of the current situation with regards to security in the world underscores the need for strengthening and advancing Russian-Cuban cooperation," Security Council Secretary Vladimir Rushailo said in talks with Cuba's First Deputy Foreign Minister Fernando Remirez.
Rushailo and Remirez addressed a wide range of security issues in their Kremlin talks, the Interfax news agency reported, quoting a Security Council statement.
The officials "exchanged views on a wide range of security, strategic stability, disarmament, nonproliferation and anti-terrorist issues," the statement said.
