EC$20 million approved for low-income starter home programme in St. Kitts
Wednesday, November 19, 2003
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts: The St. Kitts and Nevis Social Security Board has approved a EC$20 million loan to Government for a low-income starter-housing programme.
The Board said the programme will be managed by the National Housing Corporation (NHC), which will build homes for persons earning between EC$1,000 and EC$1,500 per month.
It said the NHC will use local contractors with a good standing certificate from the Social Security Board to construct the homes on St. Kitts. The Federal Government has guaranteed the loan.
Last year, the Social Security Board approved a EC$9 million loan to the Nevis Housing and Land Development Corporation to construct low-income homes in Nevis.
The Board said that to date 54 houses have been built as the Nevis Housing and Land Development Corporation continues to draw down the funds.
