ST GEORGE'S, Grenada: Poverty alleviation, human resource development and enhanced technical support were among the issues discussed during a meeting Tuesday between Prime Minister Keith Mitchell and Ambassador of Greece Athanassios Valassidis.
In welcoming Ambassador Valassidis to Grenada, Prime Minister Mitchell said the European Union (EU) has played an enourmous role in helping small states of the Caribbean meet the standards required to participate in the market place in Europe.
He said, however, that more technical and financial help is needed to implement the procedures required to access support funds. The Prime Minister also referred to the bureaucratic demands on small Developing states, which hinder their ability to access EU support funds in a timely manner.
Ambassador Valassidis informed the Prime Minister that in addition to support through the EU, Greece is embarking on a new initiative to provide bilateral technical and financial assistance to Grenada. Prime Minister Mitchell welcomed this new development and said Grenada would respond with a formal proposal for support.
