Heavy rain hits roads in British Virgin Islands
Tuesday, November 18, 2003
ROAD TOWN, BVI: The British Virgin Islands Minister for Communications and Works, Mr Paul
Wattley, has appealed to drivers to stay away from the roads in the hills, the Ridge road and areas where clean-up is in progress.
He said it is dangerous to venture into these areas because many guard rails are loose and barely standing.
Minister Wattley spoke today with taxi drivers at the cruise ship dock about the danger of using the roads after the heavy rains in the Territory last week, which caused the land to be totally saturated and loose.
He also warned that there is much erosion beneath the road surfaces in the hills and has advised drivers not to stop or park in areas below sharp cliffs and other areas of possible landslides.
