Bomb threats at Trinidad airport turn out to be bogus
Monday, November 17, 2003
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (AFP): Security was beefed up at Trinidad's Piarco International Airport following bomb threats that turned out to be bogus, Transport Minister Franklyn Khan said Saturday.
On Thursday, anonymous callers claimed bombs had been placed on two aircraft and in the main terminal, he said, adding that the airport was evacuated and searches were conducted, but no bombs were found.
Linus Rogers, Airports Authority chairman, said the threat turned out to be a hoax, although passengers checking in for flights were being subjected to added security searches.
"We are taking no chances," he said.
