ST. JOHN'S, Antigua: The price of gasoline in Antigua and Barbuda will drop by 18 cents from today. The decrease brings the price of the commodity to $7.81 per gallon at the pumps.

A few months ago, the Antigua Cabinet instituted a flexible pricing structure for fuel in the nation, which is determined by changes in product price on the world markets.

A source within the West Indies Oil Company Limited, the major supplier of petrol in Antigua and Barbuda, outlined that the fall in the price of gasoline is due to the coming on of the winter months in Europe and North America where persons drive less hence the demand for gasoline is not as great as in the other months of the year.

He however noted that all over the world the price of diesel has increased because of the demand for the commodity in both North America and Europe. He said that diesel is used primarily as heating oil.

The price of diesel on the local market will increase by 19 cents bringing the price at the pumps to $7.57 per gallon.
