CHESAPEAKE, USA (AFP): Jamaican-born John Lee Malvo, an 18-year-old accused of being one of the two Washington snipers, pleaded not guilty at the start of his trial
Monday.
Malvo was only 17 at the time of the sniper shootings, which left 10 dead and three wounded in the Washington region in October last year. But he could face the death penalty if found guilty at the trial.
Malvo's lawyers have said they plan to plead insanity and that the Jamaican immigrant had been brainwashed by John Allen Muhammad, a 42-year-old Gulf war veteran who befriended the teenager.
