Kenya team prepares for Caribbean tour

Friday, November 7, 2003

NAIROBI, Kenya: The Kenya national cricket team has started preparations for its seven-week tour of the West Indies starting next month. Kenya is to take part in the Busta Cup and Coach Andy Moles said players would start playing three-day matches among themselves next week to acquaint themselves with the longer version of the game.

According to a report in the Daily Nation, six of the national team players returned on Tuesday from Hong Kong where they played in the six-a-side tournament.

Kenya played six matches in this tournament, losing five of them against South Africa, England, Sri Lanka and India. Kenya's only win at the tournament came against Hong Kong.

Moles said his players gained invaluable experience there. "It was another learning curve for us and we should have beaten South Africa and England which were the two strongest teams in the tournament.

Moles' tenure got off to a disastrous start when Kenya were whitewashed 5-0 by Sri Lanka 'A' in a one-day series in Nairobi last month.

This was Kenya's first major assignment in nearly eight months since the World Cup in South Africa earlier this year.
