
Construction of US$10 million head office for Caribbean Star to start soon in St Kitts

BASSETERRE, St Kitts: The construction of the new Head Office for Caribbean Star in St Kitts, on land just outside of the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, is set to begin shortly following the acquisition of the title to the property by the Stanford Financial Group.
Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas said Monday that the handing over of the deed for the construction of the new building will provide additional employment opportunities for the people in St. Kitts and Nevis.
"Today becomes a very, very, important day, not only in the lives of the people who will be using this airport, but in the life of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis in general," said Prime Minister Douglas, who thanked the Stanford Financial Group for holding to their commitment.
He said it was reassuring that with the kind of support so far, the completion of the project will take place in good time.
Caribbean Star's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Paul Moriera said that the property will be soon be fenced and construction should begin within seven days.
He said Prime Minister Douglas and the President of the Stanford Financial Group, Mr. Allen Stanford will participate in a ground breaking ceremony in two weeks time.
"We are committed that within 12 months we will have the facility up and running and our commitment stays true to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Government that within the next 12 months Caribbean Star's Head Office, which will cost some US$10 million, will be completed here in St. Kitts and Nevis and this shows our commitment," said Mr. Moriera.
He added that Caribbean Star will continue to improve service levels and traffic levels into St. Kitts and Nevis to assist in the economic development of the Federation.
Some 250 local construction workers are expected to be employed during the construction phase.
