ROSEAU, Dominica: As Dominica celebrated 25 years of independence on Monday, residents and visitors alike participated in various activities which also recognise the nation's unique Creole culture, with colourful events such as Heritage Day, Creole Day and the World Creole Music Festival.
Heritage Day is held in a different village each year and is a celebration of that village's uniqueness; the people and aspects that make that village what it is. It is a day of appreciation where awards are given to outstanding individuals in the community.
However, Creole Day, the most colourful day on the Island, is not held in individual villages but all over the Island and the World Creole Music Festival consists of three days of music ranging from Louisiana's Zydeco, Africa's Soukous, Martinique and Guadeloupe's Zouk, Dominica's Bouyon, Cuba's Salsa and more.
Prime Minister, Mr Pierre Charles, also took the opportunity to address the nation and looked back at the good and not so good during the past 25 years.
He encouraged all Dominicans to learn from the lessons of the past and move forward with confidence towards peace and prosperity.
