Caribbean yardie gangs 'all over Britain'
Tuesday, November 4, 2003
LONDON, England: Jamaican and other Caribbean gangsters have invaded Britain at an "alarming rate" says a new report issued by the British police on Monday.
The report entitled Strategic assessment of the impact of Caribbean gun crime on the UK is the most comprehensive study of Jamaican and Afro-Caribbean criminals compiled so far and warns that Yardie-style gangs are now threatening a frightening upsurge in gun crime.
Their control of the crack trade in London is far worse than previously thought and has now spread to the entire south of England, a greater part of the Midlands and Wales and increasingly the North.
The study, carried out for the country's police chiefs, draws on intelligence from every force as well as the National Criminal Intelligence Service and other agencies.
The report comes after repeated warnings by police chiefs. Of 43 police forces in England and Wales, 36 say they have a problem with Yardie gangs, who also have well-established Scottish networks in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
