Trinidad couple says spirits made them cremate their baby

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad: A Trinidadian couple this week pleaded guilty to burning the remains of their baby girl in a makeshift fireplace behind a shack, AP reports indicated late night.
Mr. Lawrence Reid, 70, and Ms. Sandra Reid, 35, pleaded guilty to cremating without a license, cremating within 100 yards (90 meters) of a house and disposing of human remains in an unlawful place.
Investigators have ruled out murder and the case is closed but the exact cause of death was unknown. Mr. Reid reportedly told officers the 17-month-old girl had been suffering from a high fever and died between 1st and 2nd October.
Police said the man told them he believed in a spiritual world, and spirits guided him to cremate the baby's body in the fireplace.
