Bermuda League warns of male drink spikers

Monday, October 20, 2003

HAMILTON, Bermuda: The Director of the Bermuda's Junior Service League is warning Bermudan men to also be wary of drink spikers who are using date rape drugs to test the reaction on males.

The Bermuda Sun recently quoted Ms. Deborah Titterton-Narraway, director of the League, as saying the group has launched an awareness campaign, to educate men locally of the ploy.

While she admits that women are the main targets for drink spikers she warned that men need to pay attention to their drinks as well.

"We believe men are using it for recreational reasons on other men to see what the reaction will be," the Sun quoted Mrs. Titterton-Narraway as saying.

" It is against the law to knowingly drug someone, even if your intention is not to rape them as the drugs are commonly used, but just to see the person's reaction to the drug."

Mrs. Titterton-Narraway says the word on the street is that use of date rape drugs in Bermuda is increasing.
