Kidnappers demand TT$3 million for teen victim

Wednesday, October 15, 2003

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad: Kidnappers want the parents of 14-year-old kidnap victim, Christopher Thackorie, to dole out TT$3 million for his return. Christopher was kidnapped outside his parents' mansion at Vistabella on Sunday.

His snatching comes in light of the kidnapping and murder of Mr. Nigel Singh, a 28-year-old labourer, the Trinidad Guardian reported.

Christopher Thackorie, a Form Three student of St Benedict's College, La Romain, was snatched around 5 p.m. on Sunday, 12th October, outside his Purcell Street, home. He is the son of Linberg Thackorie, director of General Earth Movers Ltd. Investigations are continuing. Last night, his parents were reportedly sitting anxiously by the phone, awaiting another call from the kidnappers.

Meanwhile, six hours after he was kidnapped, an Erin man was found murdered at the side of a gravel track in Rancho Quemado Extension, Trinidad. He was kidnapped from his home by men posing as police who took him away from his two children and pregnant wife.

Police were quoted as saying Mr. Singh's body bore gunshot wounds to the head and bruises to the face, right hand and upper left leg. His right hand was tied behind his back with a yellow cloth and his lower left leg had lacerations.
