Argentine president to visit Cuba in 2004
Wednesday, October 15, 2003
HAVANA, Cuba: Argentine President, Mr. Nestor Kirchner, will be in Cuba next February as relations between the two countries continue to improve.
AP last night quoted Argentine Foreign Minister, Mr. Rafael Bielsa, as making the announcement late Monday, shortly before meeting with Cuban President, Mr. Fidel Castro. He also announced a series of bilateral visits in November and December aimed at improving economic ties.
Mr. Bielsa, who arrived in Cuba over the weekend, is the highest-ranking official from the South American nation to visit Cuba in 15 years.
Relations between the two countries chilled in the 1990s as Argentina drew closer to the United States, which has not had diplomatic relations with Cuba since 1961.
