Monday, October 13, 2003
ST. JOHN'S, Antigua: Guyana won their second match against hosts Antigua yesterday in a fine performance in the last Zone B match of the Red Stripe Bowl limited overs competition.
The Guyanese scored 185 for six off 47.2 overs to overtake the home side's modest 181 all out off 49.4 overs, CMC reports indicate.
Ramnaresh Sarwan, with a fine all-round performance, piloted Guyana to a four-wicket triumph at the Antigua Recreation Ground.
The win gave Guyana a berth in the final four of the competition after they finished runners-up to Barbados in the group although both teams ended with 13 points from their four matches.
The loss left Antigua and Barbuda out of the semis for the third straight year after finishing with 12 points, a single point behind the top two.
In Jamaica, hosts of the Zone A match pulled out a few last minute tricks to snatch a two-run victory from Trinidad and Tobago in the final game in Zone A preliminary round at Sabina Park.
Having posted 210 for nine wickets from their 50 overs after their top order failed, Jamaica hung on just long enough to dismiss the Trinidadians for 208 from 48.4 overs despite a solid guiding knock of 71 from captain Daren
Ganga.
The result completed a 100 per cent win record for the Jamaicans in the zone stage of the tournament.
Both teams advance to the semi finals with Trinidad and Tobago taking on Barbados, and Jamaica facing Guyana on the 16th and 17th, October, respectively.
