Former Bajan customs officer charged with drug trafficking

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: He was charged with upholding the law but now he's behind bars for breaking it. Mr. Johnathan Sylvester Gollop, 44, a former Barbados customs officer was yesterday charged with importing and trafficking cocaine and marijuana.

Mr. Gollop was arrested on Tuesday at the country's main airport when officers found 22 pounds of cocaine and 29 pounds of marijuana in his luggage, AP quoted police spokesman, Sgt. Barry Hunte, as saying. The former officer was reportedly on his way back from a trip to Guyana. US$5,000 in cash was also confiscated. 

Mr. Gollop, will reappear in Magistrate's Court on 22nd October.
