INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana: U.S. Senator, Mr. Evan Bayh, yesterday declared that expanded American trade and travel to Cuba could create a democratic opening.
"I support expanding trade between our two nations as the best way to promote and secure our mutual prosperity," AP quoted Senator Bayh, an Indiana Democrat, as saying at a news conference yesterday. "It is our belief that increased economic interaction is the best way to promote positive change" in Cuba. He added, "An absence of economic interaction has been tried for 40 years, without success."
Farmers in Indiana have agreed to sell US$15 million of goods to Cuba.
