CHA official predicts early winter season for region's tourism

Monday, October 6, 2003

KINGSTON, Jamaica: The region should ready for a historic early tourist season, almost a month ahead of the usual 15th December date.

That's the prediction of President of the Caribbean Hotel Association, Mr. Simon Suarez. The Jamaica Gleaner quoted Mr. Suarez as saying, "We will have an early season, the region as a whole will have a significantly improved winter season compared with last year." The CHA head said not since 199 has the region experienced an early season.

Mr. Suarez based his forecast on the recent increase in bookings for the Dominican Republic, where tourism officials were forced to stop sale announcements to tour operators for certain days this month.

"This really means that those peaks of occupancy will increase in November and that helps us to predict an early winter," he told the paper.
